Honoring the Life and Legacy of

Phyllis Herrera Caudillo

Oct 8, 1953 – Dec 29, 2021

Obituary

Phyllis Herrera Caudillo, born October 8th 1953, and no longer in pain on December 29, 2021. She is now at peace and reunited with her beloved son Phillip Joseph Caudillo.

The sudden loss of our matriarch has touched more hearts than we could have imagined. She was a wife of 50 years to her husband Leo Caudillo Sr., and a mother to her four children, Leo Jr., Patricia, Phillip, and Christen. We knew how much she meant to so many people, but through her passing, we are made aware that her love, nurturing, and support was not relegated to only her immediate family. She was a mom, a best friend, and a cheerleader to countless many who share in the shock and magnitude of her passing.

Her love, her smile, her generosity, and her willingness to lend a hand, spread farther than we could see, and the outpouring of love and tears, shows just how big Phyllis’s heart was. Her life was full of energy, strength, positivity, believing in the power of life, and not taking a single moment for granted. She loved without restraint, gave all of herself for others, lived to see her friends and family prosper, know they were thought of, well fed, and wanting for nothing.

The only thing we wanted for her was to live the life she deserved, in the way she made everyone around her feel. And she did, until the end. These last 3 years have been challenging with the loss of her precious son Phillip Joseph Caudillo, and the subsequent life changes that came along with it. Her cancer became an ever present aspect in her life.

Her last year was affected with so much physical pain, more than any human, a beautiful wife and mother, should be able to bear. But we all know Phyllis can be stubborn and not willing to accept no for an answer, trying with all her might to live her life as before. It’s astonishing to know so many had no idea just how bad it had gotten for her, because her spirit, her smile, her love radiated beyond the pain she felt. Her light didn’t dim.

Her loss is beyond comprehension. Take comfort in knowing she loved each and everyone one of you. Phyllis will live on in our acts of kindness, how we show love to each other, through our embroidered towels, our sewing tips and crafts, our volunteering when it’s needed or not, our homemade meals, our phone calls just to say hello, and the willingness and follow through to be present in each others lives.

We found this scribbled in her papers, this is how she chose to show up and live everyday, no matter what.

LOVE your life at its fullest
LAUGH at all the things that don’t matter
LOVE with all you have & more.

Forever in our hearts,
The Caudillo Family

In lieu of flowers please consider donating to: Emanuel House

Emanuel House is a school & after-school program located in Quisqueya, Dominican Republic. Founder, Mirqueya Guzman started the school with her own money to target the neediest children in her community. Now the school weekly ministers to over 150 children. Many of these children are not allowed to attend public school due to missing birth certificates. With help from others, she is able to offer a hot meal, educational instruction, and love.

David loved and celebrated the heart that Mirqueya had for her neighbors. Partnering with the McLean Bible Church music ministry, David led several evangelistic teams and joined with Emanuel House sharing music, food resources, material goods, and the love of Christ to the community. David would be honored to know Emanuel House is thriving because of your generosity.

    Dearest Caudillo Family,
We just received the notification of Phyllis’ passing and we are shocked and saddened at the news. We have known Phyllis for such a long time and her loving ways will never be forgotten. We only wish we could have been present at her services. Our home is full of her embroidered gifts such as towels with our girls’ names on them (and the towels are still looking like new even after so many years of use!). Phyllis is a wonderful woman who always had a smile and a positive attitude about life. She will continue to live on in our hearts and we wish to pass on our condolences to Leo and her entire family. We are certainly better people for having known Phyllis and her legacy will forever live on!!!! We miss you dearly Phyllis and embroider on in heaven!

  3. Frank Gutierrez. one thing I remember about Phyllis is seeing here at the family reunions at Parnell Park. Those were such good times. She was always running around making sure everyone had breakfast, organizing the games and every was having fun. I remember my brother Mark and I competing with Phillip and Leo in all the games. I really miss those days. Thank you Phyllis for making some great childhood memories. All my love to you and your family

  4. I met Phyllis just several times in my life but she impressed me with her kindness, positive attitude and endless proudness of her children, she spread her lil hand made gifts and traditions over the world. I think I am addicted by Disneyland and beautiful decorated Christmas boxes from her. She will be always in my heart.
